The Perfect Breakfast Date

June 25, 2011

I had the perfect breakfast date: Jamba Juice, Noah’s Bagel, and my best friends from elementary school.

You know it’s been a long time since you have seen someone when you wonder these questions:

1. Do they look the same?
2. What’s the appropriate dress code for this date?
3. What are we going to talk about?
4. Did I gain weight?
5. Will they noticed that I gained weight?

Times like this is when I realize that I truly have friends for life. So to answer the above questions…

1. We all look the same. No matter the height, our faces still resemble our baby faces from preschool through middle school and we can recognize each other from the other side of the street! The trick is to remember a person’s smile.

2. The appropriate dress code is whatever you are comfortable with. It might be kouscher to warn them that you are going to look like crap though 😉 via text message is fine. (That is what I did.)

3. When you see someone after a long time, there is a lot to catch up on and never an awkward moment. Remember: things are only awkward when you make them awkward. And then during conversation,  you can plan trips to Irvine/Disneyland to visit each other because you realize how much you miss each other.

4. Did I gain weight? I most certainly hope not!

5. They might notice your recently developed flaws, but your true friends won’t care if you’ve put on a couple pounds or gotten uglier over the years. (Not that any of us have because everyone is beautiful.) They will love you for who you are through thick and thin, through years of not seeing each other because the distance doesn’t matter.

Reuniting with those whom you truly care for is one of the best feelings in the world.

When was the last time that you caught up with old friends?
Pick up your phone, the time can start now.
